Brian Chesky

Brian Chesky is a co-founder and CEO of Airbnb, a platform for vacation rentals and travel experiences that has disrupted the hospitality industry. Born in New York in 1981, Chesky grew up in Albany, where he attended the Albany High School. He later attended the Rhode Island School of Design, where he earned a degree in industrial design.

After graduation, Chesky moved to Los Angeles to work as a designer. It was there that he met Joe Gebbia, who would later become his co-founder at Airbnb. In 2007, the two moved to San Francisco, where they started a design company called AirBed & Breakfast. The company was initially created to help pay the rent on their apartment by renting out air mattresses to attendees of a design conference who couldn't find a hotel room. It was this experience that led them to the idea for Airbnb.

Today, Airbnb has become a global company that has transformed the travel industry. It has over 4 million listings in more than 220 countries and regions, making it one of the largest hospitality companies in the world. In 2019, the company was valued at $35 billion and had over 7,500 employees.

Under Chesky's leadership, Airbnb has expanded beyond just home rentals to offer a wide range of travel experiences, including tours and activities, culinary experiences, and local experiences. Chesky has also led the company to focus on sustainability and social impact, with initiatives such as Airbnb's Open Homes program, which provides temporary housing for people in need, and the Airbnb Community Fund, which supports local nonprofit organizations.

Chesky has been recognized for his innovative leadership and entrepreneurship, receiving numerous awards and honors throughout his career. In 2015, he was named one of Time's 100 Most Influential People, and in 2020, he was named one of Fortune's Businesspersons of the Year.

In addition to his work at Airbnb, Chesky is also a philanthropist and has donated millions of dollars to various charitable causes. He is a member of the Giving Pledge, a commitment by some of the world's wealthiest people to give away the majority of their wealth to address society's most pressing problems.

In conclusion, Brian Chesky's leadership and vision have transformed the travel industry and made Airbnb one of the most successful and innovative companies in the world. His commitment to sustainability, social impact, and philanthropy are examples of how business leaders can make a positive difference in the world.
